Make your friend’s day by “baking it forward” and sharing a treat with them. This delicious health banana bread is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Indulge by adding chocolate chips or add mixed nuts for an extra crunch.
When I was home for the holidays I found my version of gold tucked away in the cupboard above the microwave – our family recipe box full of stained cards with annotations. Heirloom recipes are treasures in our house. Imitation is the best form of flattery (right?), so I figured it was about time I dug into these recipes from my grandmother’s kitchens…. Classics, some simple, others complex, but most importantly, passed down. I’m starting with Mia Mia’s (mom’s mom) Ham Soufflé.
It’s tradition in the Nelson household to start the carbs early on holiday mornings. For Thanksgiving it’s always pumpkin waffles. However, by the time Christmas rolls around, we are usually craving them all over again. In my mind, the perfect holiday breakfast includes all the delicious flavor of pumpkin pie in waffle form.
My favorite part of the day is when the sun has just come up and the day is full of promises. My typically morning starts with a run followed by my favorite meal of the day… Oh how I live for breakfast. If cheesy hot chocolate, fresh yucca rolls, and cinnamon pastries are your thing, […]
My friends (admittedly myself included) are about as indecisive as, well, I’m not quite sure… So when it came to Fourth of July plans we considered a road trip to Austin, camping in Oklahoma, a flight to LA, going to my parent’s lake house outside Kansas City, and then we settled on staying in Dallas. […]
My sister Alli has a way with animals. I wouldn’t go so far as to say she’s a horse whisper – anyone that knows her knows she’s been bucked, thrown, broken a foot, dislocated a shoulder, suffered a concussion and had to undergo wrist surgery due to miscommunication with these four-legged friends. I guess that’s […]
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Who knew? That’s why I spent my entire rainy Sunday morning (aside from a trip down to Starbucks while the dough was rising) perfecting this English muffin recipe. Lucky for you, I made all the baking mistakes in my four trial runs so it should be […]
I feel like an absolute genius. This was quite possibly one of my most simple recipe creations, but there was something so rewarding, so empowering when I removed the lid to reveal my kitchen chef-d’oeuvre. I had successfully made my own yogurt. First attempt, too! Breakfast is far and away my favorite meal of the […]
I’m 500 miles away from my dad, but today especially I wish I could rise and shine under my Kansas roof. Instead this Father’s Day morning I woke up nostalgic for my Dad’s company… and his famous pancake breakfasts. Some of my favorite childhood memories were around our kitchen island. My dad could turn ordinary […]
When it comes to running I tend to hit the pavement alone. For starters I’m not great about seeking out a running buddy, but I’m also stuck in my ways about getting my workout in before the sun rises. If I don’t do it first thing in the morning it just doesn’t happen – post-work […]
